Rambo: first god

5 March 2007

Rambo IV is apparently a christian film, according to re-born again catholic Stallone in an interview with the Catholic News Agency:

Speaking about the fourth installment of the ‘Rambo’ series, which Stallone is co-producing, directing, and acting in, ‘Sly’ notes that his protagonist (John Rambo), “is a borderline atheist. He doesn’t believe in anything anymore.”

Atheist? Sounds like a nihilist to me. Anyway, they go on:

However, Rambo’s mission in this movement, Stallone continued, “is to bring a group of Christians upriver into a very hostile territory, and they’re there to bring the Word of God and medicine and dentistry to these natives. He starts getting influenced by their faith in the face of such incredible odds.”

Yeah, it’s incredible. Such incredible odds that they have to hire a dangerous ex-military protector rather than rely on the guidance and protection of their supposed god. I forget that medicine comes at such a high price in some countries.

“Here’s how it is. I believe that you can have a Christian theme but you can’t hit it too heavy. You can’t hit ‘em over the head with a hammer. You have to be subtle about it.”

And I suppose that his auto-repeating bowie knife is a metaphor for gently preaching the word of god to the godless commies or whoever is the target in this new film.
