The Universe to scale

31 March 2007

Nikon Japan have come up with fantastic Flash application that gives one a great perspective on the relative sizes of things, from the humble proton at 1 femtometre to the grandeur observable Universe at 13.7GLy, and things like a paramecium, a hare, The Sphinx and Uranus in between at their respective scales.

The Universe to scale

The only thing that would have improved this would have been a voice over by Carl Sagan.

Universcale (requires Adobe Flash)

See also: relative sizes of planets and stars, cells and everything (requires Java).

    Another good find. Nice one.

It is quite impressive and I am surprised Nikon went to the effort to produce this site.

There's probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.
