Fisking McGrath’s “The Dawkins Delusion?”

One of those ‘moderate’ christians that I like take to time to deconstruct is Alister McGrath. For those of you who don’t know, McGrath is a professor of historical theology at Oxford University, and has in the recent past written two books with titles that specifically attack Richard Dawkins, also of Oxford University, Dawkins’ God and the more recent The Dawkins Delusion? rather than his arguments.

Anyway, the main point of this post was to highlight a fisking of McGrath’s The Dawkins Delusion? by Dan J. Bye of the Sheffield Humanist Society, which was posted in one of the comments to one of my previous posts re McGrath. I haven’t yet read McGrath’s latest book as I refuse to pay the full price for it, but Dan has and he’s gone to far greater depths than I would have. Kudos.

If you’re familiar with McGrath, this seems to be an excellent rebuttal of his latest work. If you’re not, then this might provide some insight into a prominent christian intellectual currently blipping on the British atheist’s radar.

(I meant to post about this previously, but it completely slipped my mind.)

Dan J. Bye posted the same link in the comments to my review of the Dawkins Delusion.

It is an excellent, superbly researched and detailed response to the Dawkins Delusion (Bye’s, not mine).

Ah yes, I see that. Sorry, did you mention this previously? If so, I didn’t see it.

I did read your original review and thought that that was rather insightful.
