Happy World Humanist Day
To all my fellow humanists, happy world humanist day. I hope you have a good one.
Do we really need someone to supposedly be born or die on a particular day to celebrate life? I think not.
In not completely unrelated news, if you find yourself in Edinburgh on Saturday 23rd June, you could do a lot worse than surround yourself with (other) humanists at the Humanist Society of Scotland (HSS) picnic in Holyrood Park from 2pm in their weekend celebration of the same.
Bring your own food and drink, and it might be a good idea to bring some weatherproof clothing (the Scottish weather has a notorious habit of defying the best of both predictions and intentions).
From the HSS email:
The picnic will be in the park behind the Palace near the tennis courts: look out for the HSS banner.
If the weather is appalling, we’ll adjourn to the tea shop attached to the Palace (which is in the courtyard outside Holyrood but you don’t need to buy a ticket to get in.)
Unfortunately I have a prior engagement, so I can’t personally make it, but they’re a lovely bunch of friendly people, and will no doubt make you feel very welcome. Do go along if you can.
