When numbers lie

30 November 2007

For all the hundreds of trillions of words written and spoken, by billions of believers, in millions of books, blogs, prayers and sermons, for thousands of years, none of them, not one, have even a single jot of evidence for the existence of their respective deities.

What an awful waste.

Anything in particular that made you think of that?

Not really Stu, just an observation, and something I wanted to get off my chest.

There is evidence, read the Bible. Also, science itself proves God, study chemistry, physics, amazingly complex. Evolution is garbage, a shaky theory at best. Trust in the One True God.

I’ve read various editions of your bible. It’s badly written, confused, inconsistent, and the hero, who doesn’t appear until near the end, dies. And, to top it all off, there’s a really retarded deus ex machina ending which is a total cop-out. As fiction goes, I’d give it a big thumbs down. I’d recommend Clive Barker’s Weaveworld for a more compelling fantasy tale.

Also, just for reference, complexity does not equal “therefore gods”. Oh, and by the way, I’ve studied both physics and chemistry at a university level. Have you?

If your god actually exists and wants me to trust it, it knows where to find me, let me know what it’s plan is, and give me the option to be in on it. Until it does all of the above, I’m not going to waste my time getting on my knees and mouthing vacuous petitions to thin air and screwing up my otherwise valuable weekends.

There's probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.
