Philosophy
I am an atheist. An atheist is defined as:
One who does not have a belief in a god or gods.
Contrary to some opinions that circulate amongst circles that seek to claim that atheists are something that they are not:
- I do not believe in a god or gods.
- I do not believe in a devil, demons, Satan, Lucifer.
- I most certainly do not worship any of the above!
- I do not believe in a heaven or hell.
- I do not believe in fairies, gnomes, trolls, angels, the Loch Ness monster, yeti, sirens and the rest.
- I do not believe in astrology, the “face on Mars”, that the earth was created 6,000 years ago, reincarnation, pyramid power, lizard people, ley lines, phrenology or other pseudoscience.
- I don’t claim to know everything.
- I don’t believe anyone knows everything.
- I think that reason, enquiry and science are the best ways to find out and explain what is real, and what is not.
I also find that my personal philosopy and worldview closely matches that of the Brights’ movement, namely:
- I have a naturalistic worldview;
- my worldview is free of supernatural or mystical elements; and
- my ethics are based on this naturalistic worldview.
I am also a secular humanist, a naturalist, a realist, a pragmatist and a rationalist.
