Book review policy
This book review policy lays down the principles that I will maintain when reviewing books, either as a personal endeavour, or when requested to by an author or publisher.
- Any review will be in my own words.
- Request for a review from a publisher or author should be made considering the subject matter of this web site.1
- Acceptance of a request for a review from a publisher or author is at my sole discretion.
- Acceptance of a request for a review from a publisher or author should not be considered as an endorsement of the publisher, author or title.
- I do not require, expect or accept financial or other incentives to review a book, except perhaps a copy of the book to review.
- I do not review books for material gain.2
- Should a payment for review be offered, I may, in lieu of rejecting it, ask for a donation to a charity.
- Solicited reviews, unless otherwise agreed in writing, are available to the publisher only under a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-commercial licence. The copyright for such reviews remains with me.
- Solicited reviews will be clearly marked as such.
- I will not re-review a book, a new editon or otherwise unless there is a significant amount of new content, or other equally outstanding reason.
- I do not sell or advertise books, and have no desire to do so.
- atheism; religion; free-thought; scepticism and scientific enquiry; history of religion, science or scepticism; the intersection of religion and politics, or religion and society; and related topics. [↩]
- I may link a book to the Amazon.co.uk web site using my own referrer code, the proceeds of which will go to hosting this web site, if I ever actually earn a penny though it. Should this change significantly, I will amend this policy as required and distribute the proceeds to charity. [↩]
