Cherry-picking bigot refuses to drive an “atheist bus”

I hate having to stoop so low as to refer to The Daily Wail, but it’s the only source that I could find available for this story.

A christian bus driver has refused to drive any vehicle (even though it is his job to do so) that features the banner advertising for the “atheist bus” campaign.

Ron Heather, 62, told bosses he was horrified and could not take the bus out because the atheist advert conflicted with his own religious beliefs.

He then walked out of his shift in Southampton, Hampshire, in protest.

The First Bus vehicle was one of 800 across the country to feature the first-ever atheist advertising campaign, run by the British Humanist Association.

Heather is quoted as saying:

To be fair the company have been very good and have agreed to do everything they can to keep me off those buses.

I do understand that the advert is not breaking any laws and that the campaign by this group is set to end at the end of February.

However if it goes on any longer then I will have to think again and I will seriously consider giving up my job – I feel that strongly about it.

Seems to me that that would be Heather’s loss. In the current times of economic strife, I’m sure there are plenty of people not as bigotted as Heather who would relish an extra job being made available on the market.

The Daily Hate continues:

He said he was shocked at the ’starkness’ of the advert.

Starkness? Why do you use that word? I don’t think it means what you think it means.

And to round it all off, there’s a cute little bit of fatwa envy going off in Heather’s mind:

If this had been a slogan which had been as derogatory about another religion then I’m sure people would be up in arms.

There would be no way buses be able to drive around with an anti-Muslim message like that on the side mentioning Allah. There would be uproar.

Not that the adverts are actually anti-christian if Heather actually read the wording of the advertisements, but never let it be said that facts have ever stood in the way of a religiously-motivated bigot bitching and whining.
